Beyond the Black Canvas is a platform by DÄ“pART, exclusively dedicated to the stories of black artists and their works.
By providing a platform for artists to make their voices heard, beyond the work itself, DÄ“pART shines a light on the creative thought process of the artist and the unique message they hope their art to depart.

Beyond the Black Canvas believes that it is imperative that black artists tell their own narratives and allow the world to hear about the beauty of the multi-cultural, multi-dimensional and multifaceted black story.
At a time when black culture is becoming a commodity, it is important that we are the owners of our art and its messages. With art being an ancient African language: disseminating messages through imagery, colour and symbols, we aim to preserve its authenticity, integrity and raise its profile. We hope that we can help in the process of creating a legacy for Contemporary African art that can transcend time like the ancient A-di-nkra (translated to departing messages).
